We’ve been making race boat photos for more than 50 years

Bill Muncey take the Such Crust for a test run, shot with my dad’s 4×5 speed graphic.

It all began when my father, a commercial photographer in the 1950s, was assigned shooting at the unlimited hydro races for the company’s client, Mobil Oil.

At this time in Seattle, there was no major league sports and hydro racing was it, so all three of the major television stations covered the event, breaking into programming during the day with live coverage of qualifying..

I began watching the coverage, hoping to catch a glimpse of my dad at work. That led to my interest in the sport and it wasn’t long before I was sneaking into the pits,  finagling a pit  pass, and making photos of race boats and drivers. I later covered professionally many different events in the sport and went on to cover international motorsports such as the 24 Hours of LeMans. This site, will in time, display images from many other events and faces of boat racing, as there is time and money to scan images.

If you’ve a collection you’d like to display, please contact us. We love to talk with you about your passion.
